What a ridiculous and sweeping generalisation.
Yes. And warranted in my opinion, especially among the leadership. Typical WT content included doomsday messages, fear tactics, guilting, co-dependency, mind control techniques, scripted retarded messages, speakers terrified of saying something "unapproved", no sports, no "worldly asssociation", how to remain "spotless and without blemish", boring propheitc timelines with types, and anti-types, near zero messsages on grace and mercy, etc., etc. etc. Not exactly comedy material.
The JW lifestyle, as I remember growing up was like a prisoner loaded down with rules, impossible duties, and drudery that can be summed up as 1. do more 2. run faster, 3. jump higher
I remember people being on edge, living with a seige mentality where armageddon could break out any minute and UN security forces will likely try to kill us as we watch Jehovah "kill ten thousand at our very side" (remember that Kingdom song?)
It was a laugh a minute.

This was my dad's favorite scripture that he paraphrased anytime I wanted to have a father / son talk.
By contrast, after leaving WT, we had an assistant Baptist pastor at a church we attended from Tennessee. He was hysterical. The main pastor was German, a little reserved by nature, but would giggle on demand when Pastor Mac (Irish) let loose on one of many funny sayings. The Pastors and deacons would sometimes pass a rubber chicken to each other at services.... supposedly for some sort of award I didn't fully understand, but didn't care since it was too, too funny.
The main pastor, would often quote Proverbs 17: 22 in sermons from time to time:
"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine"
I remember thinking that in 33 years of WT instruction from infancy, I had never heard that scripture quoted. A good laugh is very healthy.... unless you are a JW. Then, it is bad.
Here the WT seeks to warn against the dangers of excessive laughter:
"Excessive laughter can at times lead to vomiting. Especially in the case of children, too much laughter can cause the sphincter muscles of the bladder and the rectum to relax suddenly, with embarrassing results". - g72 1/8 pp. 3-4 Can Laughter Benefit Your Health?
I don't think assistant Pastor Mac would have made a very good JW.

this is an excellent thread to read that i saw yesterday and the poster hits the nail on the head and tells it so well.

he is really knocking pimi witnesses and has a lot of well deserved criticisms about them.. he says he hopes at this point that they never wake up….

i am inclined to feel the same.

Good connection. The same ultimate enemy that gives you the fear problem, offers you their “solution”.
By contrast, Jesus said over and over to “fear not”. I think that fear is at the root of most mental problems. And, JW’s live under crushing fear.

surely we all have one or two that truly sticks out in our memories, no matter how much we would like to forget.

my favorite wt lie: the reason they don't want to release the name of the "scholars" who worked on the new world translation is because they do not want to accept "glory and honor" from others.

But when the Gibbering Buddies found out they could extract millions of dollars each year from countries in $atan's Organization, especially in Europe, all they sudden is was OK to be a church.

A poll released by the Kyiv Institute of Sociology, with data gathered from 8–16 April, 41.1% of people in Donetsk were for decentralisation of Ukraine with powers transferred to regions, while letting it remain a unified state, 38.4% for changing Ukraine into federation, 27.5% were in favour of secession from Ukraine to join the Russian Federation, and only 10.6% supported current unitary structure without changes.[18]

Looks like most of the people affected by all this are unhappy with Zelenski's Ukraine one way or another. This is a regional dispute and needs to be worked out between the parties invoved. It is certainly not an issue worthy of a nuclear war for the whole world to suffer through.

Many seem to love war and chaos so that they can be part of the "solution". Only problem is, the people in the disputed regions don't seem to particularly want to be "saved" by Zelinski. I hope voters remember what their hawkish politicians (on both sides of the isle) put us through in two years during the next election cycle.

What this means is that, anyone who believes they can be saved by the blood of Jesus alone, they will still be viewed as a filthy Babylonish Whore and avoided all costs.

So, if you come to Jesus as he invited, talk to him like he instructed, and accept his deal for peace with God in the new covenant, you will never see your family again, your name will be permanently smeared and you can forget about any family inheritance. You may not even be notified if your mother gets sick and is put in Hospice to die (like what happened to me). When I asked my father in person, "Where is mom?. He said her ashes were in the backyard lawnmower shed.

But, if an XJW is willing to continue their rebellion against the authority of Jesus after they leave, you will now be thrown an emotional bone now and then..... a few scraps from the family table.
